For all research a free no-obligation quote and assessment will be provided, based on the Client’s individual needs. One hours free research time will be provided, prior to commitment, to ensure the relevant records are accessible and to determine likely chance of success to fulfil the Client’s requirements. If it is anticipated that the Client’s objectives cannot be met projects may be declined without charge.
Once a project is accepted, a budget will be agreed and a projected start date will be provided. Work will commence upon receipt of an agreed deposit and a signed ‘Terms of Service’ document.
A monthly breakdown of expenditure can be provided if the scope of the research runs into several months. Once the budget has been reached, a further discussion will be held to determine the Client’s desire to proceed, or not, with further research. The budget will not be exceeded without the express permission of the Client.
Packaged research comes with a fixed cost. But may be negotiated if the Client wishes to increase or reduce research time or components included in the package.
Once work is completed the output will be provided to the Client upon receipt of cleared funds for the work completed.
All bespoke research is charged at an hourly rate of £25.00. Packages range from £250-£1200 covering one surname line over four generations to four lines over five generations, with the Client's parents the first generation in most cases. Rates can be tailored to add or remove individuals and/or included components, details of which will be provided in the initial quote. Once a start date for research is agreed a deposit will be taken and research will commence upon clearance of initial deposit.
The final invoice will be issued upon completion of the research and must be paid within 14 days. Payment can be via Bank Transfer (BACS, IBAN, CHAPS), or Cheque.
Final research, reports and charts will be issued upon receipt of cleared funds for the final invoice. Negative searches will be provided in the output and are still chargeable.

Family History can, at times, be uncertain in it’s results. Some records do not survive, others were never created correctly in the first place and, in many instances, our ancestors were economical with the truth! This can lead to research going off track at times. It should also be noted that family history, and DNA testing in particular, can reveal family information that was not previously known and may not always be welcome. It is important to understand that your final report may uncover information of which family members were previously unaware.
The length of time required to fulfil each request will be determined by the individual nature of the request and the amount of information the Client is able to provide. Updated reports will be provided and agreed with the Client when research begins. Please allow 4-8 weeks for completion of all research and reporting, but this could be significantly longer for more complex requirements, and for research which takes place outside of Lincolnshire which requires Archive visits.
Likelihood of success will be discussed at the outset when providing a quote, and the Client should make GenTree aware of any specific deadlines that they would like to be met, such as birthdays and anniversaries.
If the work on a pre-paid package cannot be completed because of lack of available records, a partial refund will be discussed and agreed, based on work already undertaken and completed.
Any research work undertaken will be chargeable, even if no results are found.
The Client may cancel at any time.
In the event of cancellation any research already carried out on the Client’s behalf, or any costs incurred which are not covered by the initial deposit, will be chargeable and invoiced as per advertised rates, and should be settled by the Client within 14 days. A report will not be issued.
Deposits are non-refundable.
GenTree reserves the right to cancel commissioned research at any time. In the unlikely event of this happening, a refund will be made to the Client of any monies already paid, minus research and document costs already accrued. Should GenTree be unable to fulfil the Client’s requests, other specialising Genealogists may be suggested.

Clients should ensure they own the copyright or have the copyright holder’s permission for any photographs they wish to be included in the report.
